Jan-Felix Schrape | 1.
This entry provides an overview of process-oriented case studies designed to explain transformation and transition processes within socio-economic sectors and fields. It first outlines the concepts of causal reconstruction and process tracing. Then, it details the main objectives and the research workflow of process-oriented case studies, which focus on the understanding given to social phenomena, events, or developments by identifying and tracing the intricate processes that led to them. The entry concludes by presenting examples of case studies that examine socio-technical transformation processes across various economic sectors and discussing the relevance of process-oriented case studies to the field of economic sociology.
